The role of phosphate binders
A range of different phosphate binders is currently on the market distinguished by their chemical formulation and the physical form of the tablets. These oral medications are taken together with meals in order to bind with the phosphates derived from food. Thus, phosphate binders prevent part of the phosphate from being absorbed in the gastro-intestinal tract and avoid further impairment of the mineral system.
